Exploring the Amherstburg Ferry Company

The Amherstburg Ferry Company provides a crucial link between the mainland and Bois Blanc Island, ensuring accessibility for all visitors. The ferry operates around the clock, running every 20 minutes, 365 days a year, making it a reliable choice for both residents and visitors.

Accessibility Features

For those requiring additional support, the ferry service offers a wheelchair-accessible car park and a wheelchair-accessible entrance. These features ensure that individuals with mobility challenges can enjoy the scenic five-minute ride to Bois Blanc Island without difficulty.

What Visitors Are Saying

Many reviews highlight the friendly nature of the staff. Visitors noted that "the staff are all friendly and always smiling," particularly mentioning employees like Diane and Steve. This positive interaction contributes significantly to the overall experience on the ferry. However, it's important to acknowledge mixed experiences reported by some guests. While many found the service smooth and efficient, others encountered issues, particularly regarding access to Bois Blanc Island. Comments such as “I was refused on the island because of the way I look” indicate that there are inconsistencies in how guests are treated when attempting to board the ferry.

A Smooth Ride

Affirmations about the ferry’s reliability abound, with numerous guests commenting on its punctuality. "Service is on time like clockwork," one visitor exclaimed, emphasizing the ease of getting on and off the ferry. With a cost of only $10 for visitors, it's an affordable means to access the island, which boasts beautiful landscapes and historic remnants from its days as an amusement park.

Concerns and Improvements

Despite the cheerful atmosphere, some reviews express frustration regarding the limitations placed on accessing Bois Blanc Island. Statements such as "the island is closed to outside visitors" and "it needs to be replaced" reflect ongoing concerns about service management and communication. While many patrons enjoyed their trips to the island, others felt unwelcome or ill-treated by staff, describing experiences of humiliation and rudeness. Such feedback suggests a need for improvement in customer service practices to ensure that all guests feel valued.

In Summary

The Amherstburg Ferry Company remains a vital service connecting visitors to Bois Blanc Island. Its wheelchair-accessible facilities and frequent service make it suitable for many. However, addressing customer service issues and ensuring clear communication regarding access policies would enhance the overall visitor experience.

We ain't acceptin' visitors 'cause they think they can do as they please, that's all there is to it. That's what the rude lady on the phone told me!

Feels like déjà vu from the Boblo days, lovely to just sit by the water and admire Boblo Island. The parking is spotless!

Grace Taylor (2025-05-08, 3:42 p.m.):
The image projected by the ferry worker we encountered was quite poor, to say the least. Despite no mention on the website of the ferry being closed to guests of the island, that is exactly what we faced when attempting to board. We were informed that due to road construction and renovations taking place at the island's restaurant, guests are currently not permitted. And apparently, this situation is anticipated to last for a whole year. Quite unbelievable, right?
Evelyn Cooper (2025-05-04, 4:08 p.m.):
Not much to say, they didn't sink so that deserves 5 stars from me. Keep up the good work, chaps!

Well, mate, that snap there is of Duffy's docks, not the ferry company. Quite a mix-up, I must say! Cheers!

That was absolutely brilliant, simply top-notch.
Walter Bennett (2025-04-23, 1:20 a.m.):
The ferry service operates every 20 minutes, 24/7, all year round. Our friendly and experienced crew will ensure you board and disembark the island safely, all for just $5 per person (excluding residents).
Michael Miller (2025-04-20, 7:25 a.m.):
Bloody rude lot and unreliable service depending on who's about. Yesterday they let visitors pay and ride, but today we were told to bugger off and turn around.
