When planning a trip to the breathtaking Banff National Park in Alberta, Canada, securing reliable transportation is essential. Hertz Car Rental, conveniently located opposite the iconic Banff Springs Hotel, offers a range of vehicles to enhance your travel experience. However, it's crucial to be aware of accessibility features and recent customer experiences before making your reservation.
Accessibility at Hertz Banff
Hertz Car Rental in Banff prioritizes inclusivity, featuring a wheelchair-accessible entrance and a wheelchair-accessible car park. These facilities ensure that all customers can navigate the rental process with ease. Whether you're traveling solo or with family, knowing that accessibility is considered can provide peace of mind during your visit.
Customer Experiences: A Mixed Bag
Despite its prime location and accessibility features, customer reviews reveal a range of experiences at Hertz Banff. Some patrons have faced significant challenges, such as closed offices during posted business hours. For instance, one customer reported arriving at their reserved pickup time of 2 PM only to find the Hertz store closed, with no response to multiple phone calls. This resulted in frustration and an ongoing struggle to receive a full refund, highlighting concerns about customer service and operational reliability.
On the other hand, there have been positive experiences noted as well. Some customers praised the friendly and flexible staff, recounting instances where they were accommodated even after hours. One reviewer shared how the manager stayed late to assist them, showcasing the potential for excellent service amidst the inconsistencies.
Key Considerations Before Renting
When considering Hertz Car Rental in Banff, potential customers should keep the following points in mind:
- Communication is Key: Ensure to confirm your reservations and be aware of the store hours. Misunderstandings have led to inconveniences for several customers.
- Customer Service Variability: While some employees provide exceptional service, others may not meet expectations. If you encounter difficulties, remain persistent in seeking assistance from management.
- Refund Policy Awareness: Be informed about the terms surrounding cancellations and refunds. Several customers have expressed dissatisfaction regarding unexpected fees and unhelpful responses when requesting reimbursements.
A Perfect Location for Your Adventure

The car and service were top-notch. However, the 300% markup on fuel if you return it without a full tank is absolutely ridiculous. They do offer the option to pre-purchase a full tank, but we weren't planning on driving very far. It just seems like a sneaky way for a big corporation to make extra money by selling unnecessary fuel.

*NEW MANAGEMENT ALERT* I've had some pretty rough experiences trying to rent cars because of my age, but when I called this place, they hooked me up with a car the same day. I didn't even give them much info on what I needed, but they totally nailed it with the perfect vehicle for me. Working in Banff, they even gave me a sweet discount and the manager stuck around late to help me out. They walked me through sorting out some issues with my credit card, made sure I refueled the car before bringing it back, and let me know all about their gas charges. Seriously, this was hands down the smoothest rental experience I've ever had. I'll definitely recommend them and will absolutely be coming back for future rentals.
Diana Evans (2025-07-23, 7:56 p.m.):
The absolute best car rental experience I've had, mate! They sorted us out with 2 last-minute rentals at cracking prices. This will definitely be my go-to car rental agency next time I'm in Banff!

Oh, the spot boasts a lovely vista!

The Seattle raised Hawaiian staff was absolutely awesome! They were so friendly and kind, making my car rental experience a breeze.
I can't wait to visit Banff again from Japan!

I must say, I was rather disappointed with my recent experience with Hertz Banff. I had two separate rentals with them.
The first rental was just for a day. I had arranged to pick up the car at 9am, but got a call the day before informing me that the vehicle was still in Calgary and wouldn't be ready until around 10am. They said they would let me know when it arrived in Banff. Fortunately, I was able to adjust my schedule that day. Despite the small delay, that rental went smoothly overall.
Now, the second rental was a different story. When I picked up the car, I made it clear that I needed it at 9am as per my reservation and was assured there would be no issues with timing. However, when I arrived at 9am, the office was closed and locked. An employee finally showed up and opened up at 9:20am, which wasn't a huge deal. But the car I received was disgustingly dirty, unwashed, low on fuel, and even had trash left by the previous renters inside. Considering all the sanitation measures in place these days, this is completely unacceptable. I can only give them a second star for the staff member who was a friendly chap clearly overwhelmed by poor management.

Received top-notch service at this car rental agency, the vehicle was spotless and the front desk staff were friendly. Much obliged, folks!
Anthony Reed (2025-07-14, 12:36 a.m.):
I recently made a booking at this car rental agency. The collection process went off without a hitch, the car was spotlessly clean and clearly well-maintained. Sadahat exceeded my expectations by far. He even took a moment to demonstrate the location of the USB charging port!
Judy James (2025-07-11, 10:26 a.m.):
I must say, Chris, the manager over at Hertz Banff, was absolutely fabulous! His professionalism and efficiency were top-notch, truly making him a valuable member of the team. His customer service skills were exceptional. Thank you so much, Chris, for all your assistance.

Just wanted to give a shoutout to the lovely folks over at Hertz Banff! We were on this grand road trip celebrating my mate's 90th birthday when we encountered a bit of trouble with one of the tires on our Calgary rental. We popped in at Hertz Banff for some assistance, and let me tell you, Val, Shah, and the rest of the team really stepped up to help us out. They went the extra mile to get us back on track with a similar car size. Top-notch service all around!
Brittany Perry (2025-07-09, 6:57 a.m.):
Absolutely lovely experience with this car rental agency. We were a tad worried about potential additional charges for minor damages, but our time at Hertz was hassle-free and relaxed. We accidentally returned the vehicle after closing hours (had no clue they shut at 3pm) but could simply park the car and drop the keys in the box without any hassle. The only tiny issue was that we didn't receive the car size we had booked. Instead of a compact, we were upgraded to a massive Yukon, which, while luxurious, was unnecessary for just the two of us and drank gas like there was no tomorrow.
Jennifer Martinez (2025-07-08, 4:38 a.m.):
Just like most American car rental agencies
Bobby Alexander (2025-07-08, 12:44 a.m.):
I would have given a 0-star rating if it were possible.
I had made a reservation with Hertz Banff for a car rental, with a pick-up time scheduled for 2pm. However, upon my arrival at 2pm, I found the Hertz store closed. I tried calling Hertz Banff several times but received no answer. According to my confirmation email, the store hours are supposed to be Mon-Sat from 9am to 3pm, yet there was nobody present when I arrived for my 2pm pick-up. I then contacted Hertz Customer Service and explained the situation, and was assured that I would receive a full refund within 2-3 business days for the amount I had paid for the rental car, considering the store was closed and I was unable to collect the vehicle. However, I have yet to receive the full refund as a "Cancellation Fee" of $100 USD has been charged. Despite multiple attempts to resolve this issue with Hertz, I have not been successful in obtaining the refund. This has been a frustrating experience as I was unable to proceed with my rental and am now facing charges due to the closure of the Banff Hertz store outside of its stated operating hours. The assistance provided by your online team has been unhelpful in securing a refund, leading us to make numerous calls and speaking with different team members. To add to the inconvenience, I had non-refundable accommodation booked for my trip, resulting in a significant financial loss due to Hertz. This entire ordeal is completely unacceptable, as Hertz Banff is holding us accountable for their error. We have decided not to engage with Hertz in the future and will ensure others are aware of this abysmal customer service encounter.
Gabriel Hughes (2025-07-04, 10:49 p.m.):
I recently rented a car from Hertz at Calgary airport for a trip to Banff. During the journey, I noticed that the car had a tow issue. Upon reaching Banff, we approached the Hertz office to see if they could resolve or replace it. The man with red/grey hair, a beard, and glasses was quite impolite and unreasonable. He asked us to return the next day, promising a replacement vehicle. However, the next morning, he feigned ignorance and claimed not to remember our conversation, even pretending to struggle with English comprehension. His behavior was very unpleasant and haughty; perhaps he should consider a change in career. Ultimately, we had to get the car fixed at our own cost. Fortunately, the other Canadians we encountered were extremely pleasant individuals.
Charles Cruz (2025-07-03, 5:23 p.m.):
I got top-notch service from the Hertz Banff branch today. Cheers!
Dorothy Morales (2025-07-01, 3:05 p.m.):
Me and my mates, we booked a car the night before, yeah? We took two bloody buses to get to the Hertz place just to find out the car never showed up. No call, no email. Rubbish customer service, innit.
Kevin Miller (2025-07-01, 2:12 a.m.):
Absolute rubbish, this car rental place is a complete shambles. I booked a car online not once but twice, only to be told upon arrival that they had no cars left... What a load of codswallop! If you can't fulfill the bookings you take online, then you ought to get your act together and sort out your systems...
To top it off, they still haven't refunded me for the reservation, and it's been a solid 3 weeks since the first booking was made...
Save yourself the bother and steer clear of these muppets.
Logan Phillips (2025-06-30, 6:12 p.m.):
I must say, this is me second time renting a vehicle from this establishment and let me tell you, both experiences have been absolutely splendid. Shah went above and beyond to accommodate my last-minute request for a car, despite the hectic day they were experiencing. If you're looking to rent a car in the area and embark on an adventure, I highly recommend this place. Their prices are fair, and the customer service is top-notch. I will definitely be returning to them the next time I find meself in these parts.
Kathleen Morris (2025-06-29, 7:34 p.m.):
We've received top-notch service from Valentino on numerous occasions, who has always gone the extra mile to ensure our car rental experience is smooth and stress-free, even on short notice.
Douglas Young (2025-06-29, 6:40 p.m.):
The new manager was absolutely brilliant and so helpful!
